ICE, ICE, BABY!

On Sunday, Feb 14, the JOC is going ICE CLIMBING. Join us for an unforgettable adventure!

This is an awesome trip that we have done five times before, and always have a great time doing so.
The guides at Alpine Endeavors are terrific, and the routes are challenging and
exhilarating, yet still accessible to first timers after some initial training. The routes are located near Kaaterskill Falls, off Rt 23A in the Catskills. (On the way to Hunter Mtn). We usually get a nice crowd of onlookers as well who can't believe that Jews actually do this $#^&.

If you did this adventure with a friend, you'd pay $185 --  Go to their
website if you don't believe me (AlipineEndeavors.com). With JOC, the cost
is only $120, plus tip. I was able to negotiate this deal in exchange for
their using cheaper, frayed ropes, second hand ice picks, and
crampons that don't stay on.
:)

PLEASE NOTE: The last 5 times we have done this, we have filled up
but, in the event that  I can't get 14 people, the cost may go up a bit.
Transportation will be via carpool and passengers will be expected to
reimburse drivers.

Here are some info in Q and A: Please read it carefully before signing up!

WHERE ARE WE GOING?
The day starts at 8:30 am, up in the Catskills. Please budget about 2.25
hours to get there from the GW bridge. More if you stop at the Kosher Dunkin Donuts along the way...

HOW DO WE GET THERE?
After people sign up, I will create a separate email list for those who
are going.  I will send out an email giving out information on who has cars
and where they are leaving from. It is your responsibility to get a ride.

WHAT DOES IT COST?
Again, the cost is only $120, which covers guides, equipment
rental and instruction.  Transportation, lunch, and tip is not included.

HOW SHOULD I DRESS?
Extremely warmly!!  Everybody should try to have some type of waterproof
clothing or shell material with some warm layers of fleece clothing
underneath. Try to avoid the use of any cotton if possible.  Keep in mind
that you will be outside in what will likely be very cold weather for an entire day.
Skirts are not particularly tzniut for this kind of trip and are not recommended.
A more detailed packing list will be sent to attendees.

WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?
Since I am paying up front, I cannot offer any refunds with less than
one week's notice. After that I will direct others who want to come to you, and they
will pay you directly to take your place. I cannot make any guarantees about my ability to find you a replacement.

WHAT IS THE DEADLINE?
The deadline for signing up is Thursday Feb 4. I need to know our final numbers
at that point, so our guides can hire appropriately.

HOW DO I REGISTER?
A) Sign up via event brite at www.jociceclimbing2010.eventbrite.com

B) Send $120 via paypal to JewishOutdoorsClub@yahoo.com

FINAL THOUGHTS?
This trip is totally kick-ass, and you'll have a great time while making friends with fun, adventurous folk. Don't get closed out-- register soon!

Any questions? Email me!

Looking forward to seeing you there!
-Alon
